That was the most hilarious video ever.

One question:

Are you going to personally slaughter those chics someday?

a sermon title is coming to me...

Life is Short

p.s. Laura wants to know if the chics really came in the mail. If so, do they mail to Turkey?

yes, all 4 chicks came in the mail. cool eh? but it would probably be cheaper to hitchhike outside your city to a local village and pick up some chicks there than have them shipped to turkey.

i'm prepping the kids by talking about how we're gonna chop the chicks heads off so they'll be ok with it. abi says "dad, maybe we can just chop 2 of their heads off so we can keep 2"

but holly doesnt want to kill them. this is the first time i've seen her have compassion for an animal.

but we'll answer those questions when the time comes.

I'm sure you will. When the wee girls are red-faced, screaming and crying. Begging you to please! please! Daddy put down the cleaver! Holly hasn't spoken to you for days when the girls collapse on the floor, too exhausted to cry anymore. The chicks, now mature and oh-so-much-wiser hens, looking at you sideways (because they kinda have to) as if to say, "Bust a move Daddy-boy, because we ain't never gonna forget this one!" Yes, yes, then your nights will be dreamless oceans of slumber, won't they?

Omigosh, I just asked levi about getting chicks yesterday. Party-pooper said no. Probably because our yard isn't fenced. And the roving packs of rabid dogs.

I was just thinking about getting some chickens too!!! Weird sister mind meld!
I was thinking of getting this kind that have feathers on their feet. they kind of look like those anorexic movie stars wearing fur boots.

You know what we are thinking about getting.

They have these cats here that are super white and they have one blue eye and one green eye.

Doesn't that sound sweet?

Yeah, I've seen those. Really cute, but super hard to milk. And the eggs are really tiny.

our neighbors never mow their lawn, so it grows 4-6 feet tall in the summer. their windows are broken out in their house and large parts of the house are rotting and falling off.

unfortunately one of the chicks fell off our porch into the neighbors yard. (the neighbor kids were playing with them and in one of the torture sessions, one of the chicks escaped). we were digging in 4 foot weeds for about an hour before we found the poor chick.

i wonder if these birds are going to survive the summer.

Hols, sweetie, I know where your compassion comes from ... do you remember when YOUR Daddy thought it would be educational to take you out to Grandma B.'s farm to see how she killed chickens? How the one little chicken walked around with it's little head cut off? (where the saying comes from..) and we won't even mention the rubber finger machine that flailed their little feathers off... I'm sure the memories are hidden deep, deep within but still affecting your responses to anything chicken-related.
